After 6 months here, I can say it was an amazing experience.
I came to China to totally disconnect from my old life and reconnect with myself and the essentials of life.
Chinese culture and martial arts have always been very attractive to me, even as a child. I've always been fascinated by the Asian world and their way of looking at life. So, after years of making excuses, I embarked on this adventure with my brother, who shares the same passion.
Given my fascination with the films of Ip Man and Bruce Lee, I decided to practice Wing Chun with Master Zhang and for my first 3 months I also did Sanda in the afternoons.
For me, Master Zhang is a favorite, and I've learned a lot from him. He's ultra-patient, always there to help us, very attentive to our mistakes so that we can be better than the previous class, etc. His way of teaching is really exceptional. His way of teaching is truly exceptional. He will be my teacher forever. I sincerely hope to see him again when I return to China or elsewhere.
In general, training wasn't that difficult for me, as I'm very athlete, but we have the opportunity to push the bar higher with the equipment and environment we have at our disposal. Here, self-discipline is also important if you want to progress well.
When I came here, I only wanted to focus on training, but I quickly realized that I also had to make the most of every moment, because I also met some very nice people, visited other cities and had a great time.
Finally, I can say that this kind of experience should be had at least once in your life. Just to say to yourself “I'm in China” is already incredible, but to add the practice of martial arts in a Shaolin school is wordless. It's up to you to find out!
